A Simplified Engine Lineup for the 2019 Kia Sorento
September 19 2018, Lindsay Kia
The Kia Sorento has been on the market since 2002. Back then, Kia was only a few years old on the Canadian market, and they hadn’t really established themselves as a quality automaker in the eyes of the public. That’s when the Kia Sorento was launched. Fast forward to today, and the Sorento remains one of the most impressive vehicles in the crowded mid-size SUV segment.
For 2019 Kia has simplified its engine lineup. Indeed, the Sorento now has two engines to offer as opposed to three with the turbocharged 2.0-litre option being removed from the lineup. That said, with both a four-cylinder and an efficient V6 option, there’s plenty of power to go around depending on your needs.
The entry-level 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine delivers 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque while the 3.3-litre V6 engine delivers 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox while the V6 comes with an 8-speed gearbox.
Front-wheel drive is available, but most models including every V6-powered Sorento comes standard with all-wheel drive. Towing capacity can reach 5,000 pounds which means there’s very little you can’t tow with your 2019 Kia Sorento.
Moreover, the new Sorento features room for seven passengers and a cargo area that can reach 2,082 litres. That means that there is plenty of versatility to go with the interior space found in the Sorento.
Power, versatility, and efficiency. Those three words describe the Sorento to a tee, and ultimately that combination explains why the Sorento’s sales have surpassed those of the Pilot, Pathfinder and Highlander last year. The 2019 Kia Sorento is a serious contender, and Canadians are taking notice.
